Well, the auto plant’s been slow for weeks
Stores’re boarded up on all the streets
And though most’re fightin’ to survive
There are certain places that’ll thrive

And that’s churches, flower shops and bars
they heal broken spirits, promises and hearts
Sweet bouquets and beer and Jesus 
for when poor men fall to pieces
Folks get scared and soothe their scars
At churches, flower shops and bars

Some’re dyein’ their white collars blue
Laid off bossmen sweep up taverns, too
People drink their marriage on the rocks
Then stop by for roses down the block

‘round these parts they say our county is the poorest
Unless you’re a preacher, barkeep or a florist
