Coco – vocals, guitar Poni – drums Jem - bass
In early 2004, THE ETTES exploded out of the gates with their beat-punk sound and haven’t stopped since. Drawing inspiration from early punk and beat bands, such as the Stooges, the Ramones, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, as well as more melodic 60’s country acts such as Patsy Cline and Nancy Sinatra, THE ETTES have a rock-and-roll sound all their own.
THE ETTES have been compared to such acts as Blondie, Thee Headcoatees, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Strokes. Their live energy is contagious, with their shows leaving rooms swirling with energy and the crowd demanding more. On the common request for encores, Jem offers, “If we’re all still standing and the gear can still make noise, we’ll do it!” And after three U.S. tours in 6 months, the generated buzz is deafening.
Moving west from NYC, Coco, Poni, and Jem met up in Los Angeles. Strangers in a strange land, they struck up an immediate and explosive musical relationship that became THE ETTES. Jem’s garage background -- paired with Poni’s powerful punk rock beats -- fused with Coco’s 60’s country vocals to create a whole new beat-punk rock-and-roll sound that has been blowing people away from Canada and the States to the UK and Europe, and everywhere in between.
Reviews on THE ETTES' live show regularly comment on the high performance level and stage presence of the band. All longtime performers, THE ETTES are right at home on stage. Deeming THE ETTES, “As fetching as they are ferocious” MAGNET MAGAZINE got it right when they called THE ETTES the band to watch in 2007. In their recent International Music Issue, NYLON MAGAZINE cheers, “This retro beat-punk band oozes sexual energy” and HARP MAGAZINE voted a victory for THE ETTES in “A cage match between Mick Jagger and Nancy Sinatra”. ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE compares them to the Cramps, and ARTROCKER praises their “loud and danceable garage rock.”
Lauded by fans and critics alike, American radio has latched on to THE ETTES: supported by the tastemakers at Seattle’s KEXP, presented by Nic Harcourt’s KCRW in NYC, a favorite of KXLU, WFMU and INDIE 103.1, THE ETTES have won over radio all over the country. THE ETTES tour relentlessly, playing with such acts as KINGS OF LEON, THE BLACK KEYS, RADIO BIRDMAN, THE CONSTANTINES, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, HOLLY GOLIGHTLY, and THE BlACK LIPS, to mention a very few. THE ETTES even supported ‘80s punk icons THE GO-GO'S. As noted artist and rock critic Falling James (LA WEEKLY) put it simply, “THE ETTES are it.”
