BIOGRAPHY
In the summer of 2004 Ben Jarrad moved from his home in Houston, TX to Boston, Mass. to become immersed in the bubble that is Berklee College of Music. Songwriting and playing with different musicians regularly became the norm. Ben has had studio experience since he was seventeen and currently records on his own at his home/studio in Brighton. He is playing in two bands (Autumn Armor, Two Play) and has been recording over the past year at Playonbrother Studios with Alan Evans of Soulive. In a session with Two Play at Playonbrother Alan had some words after the session,

“After that I did a session I got together with a great duo called Two Play here at the studio. The Duo is Ben Jarrad with Vocals, Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Banjo, Yuk and Cherstin with Vocals & Keys. They both blew me away, Cherstin is a single take queen and Ben amazed me with all the music he heard in his head. I would hear one part and say that's cool, next part... ahhh ok, third part.... hmmm interesting. Then you bring all the tracks up and it was just beautiful together..”

Autumn Armor also had a great experience this November and is due back in the middle of December to finish the full-length. Ben doesn’t just record he has been playing live in bands for eight years now. He likes to play all genres of music, but he has focused more recently on popular music because so many styles are accepted in pop music. Although, he doesn’t forget his southern jazz/blues and folk roots.

“ I believe in doing something you really enjoy and music does it for me. It’s hard to picture myself not playing music. It’s a true labor of love,”

Colin Dinnie and Jon Reilly are two amazing musicians that make up the band...I'm just lucky to play with these two.

Jon and i have also recorded stuff together for a few years now...

He is featured on "Homeless Nugs" and he wrote "Roadrunner" and "So What"

Colin Dinnie and i met up in a band called "Coat of Thieves" and we soon learned of the chemistry we had for creating songs.

I'll put some of the cuts we recorded in Vermont, with Alan Evans, of Soulive i have some pics up from that session as well.

The Autumn Armor trio has recorded 4 new songs with Alan and hopes to finish up some more in Nov.

Keep you posted

Legends: Bobby Braddock

In Nashville, most successful songwriters have a fairly short run. On hit, one year, two years, five years. Occasionally, we get one whose career approaches the length of a real career or, more often, one who has a few years success, then slips into oblivion, only to emerge again for another brief era of hit-making.

Legends: Rickie Lee Jones

She speaks softly, not unlike the way she sings --soft, soulful passages, almost like secrets to the closest of friends --punctuated by bursts of exaltation. It's much like the span of emotion in her work, and in her new record, Balm in Gilead, which veers from the pure, naked heartbreak of "Bonfires" to the elation of "Old Enough," to the beautiful "Wild Girl," which celebrates the 21st birthday of her daughter, while simultaneously reflecting on the unchained fervor of her own wild days.

Legends: Robert Earl Keen

As singer/songwriters go, Robert Earl Keen doesn't seem like the kind of artist who could honestly be accused of sloth. But despite a catalog choked with characters and conversations pulled from a colorful life, he makes that very claim on "Something That I Do," a track where he brags of his ability to not let work get in the way of an otherwise pleasant afternoon.

Townes Van Zandt: Facets, Faults & Fractures

It's 10 o'clock at night on an abandoned Music Row. The year is 1985. In a third-floor office in an old house that serves as the offices for the Oak Ridge Boys' Silverline/Goldline Music Publishing, Steve Earle brings the chair he's leaning back in down hard, flipping his hair out of his eyes for emphasis.
