WHEN I'M NOT WORKING
My husband and I live in East Nashville in an old house with green and purple walls. We have two adorable dogs, a giant lop-eared bunny and a kick-ass record collection. In my spare time I am a columnist for Her Nashville, the local woman's magazine. I also run a business for my handmade accessories called abbyhugs (www.myspace.com/abbyhugs), which are sold in Nashville boutiques such as Local Honey, Nashville Clothing Company, JAMIE and HBH Profiles. I also have a screenprinter and a sewing machine and plan to use those things to either save or take over the world. My favorite places to go in Nashville are Rumours East, The Basement, Grimeys, 12 South Taproom, Sevier Park, and the Yazoo Brewery.
GREAT MUSIC STORY
Oh, there are so many....I've been fortunate to interview so many ridiculously brilliant artists, and the best stuff always happened when the tape wasn't rolling....I'll rely upon my failing memory to conjure up a few: *Interviewing my adolescent crush, Evan Dando. And having him hang up on me. It's OK, Evan, I'll always love you... *Watching the Raconteurs and Wolfmother from backstage at Lollapolooza in 2006. My ears still hurt, but it was worth it. *R.E.M. at the Ryman in 2004 and the afterparty. Enough said. *Meeting Davy Jones, age 7. Mom not putting film in the camera. That's OK, Mom, Davy came to the Cool Springs Galleria in 2002 and I got my picture then!! *Interviewing Hanson (yes, THAT Hanson. I love them) on MuchMusic when I was in college. I think that's where I got the bug to work in the music industry. *Taking out-of-town bands honky-tonking in downtown Nashville on slow nights and teaching them how to line dance (OK, I taught them the Hustle, the only line dance I know, but they were none the wiser).
PROJECT I'M CURRENTLY WORKING ON
Freelance writing--including writing for publications and composing bios/marketing materials for artists.

Q&A: Bright Eyes

After a brief stint as a solo artist, Conor Oberst has revived Bright Eyes to release The People’s Key, an album that deals with the nature of time, spirituality, and human existence. Also, it’s Rastafarian friendly.

>>

Robbie Robertson

As a member of The Band, Robbie Robertson changed the course or rock music history, hipping the genre to a more old-timey sound with songs like “The Weight,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” His latest solo album, How To Become Clairvoyant, reflects on his rock and roll past.

Jessica Lea Mayfield: Look At Miss Ohio

“Things are starting to get weird.”

Jessica Lea Mayfield, whose Nonesuch Records debut Tell Me is in stores now, is on the phone from her home in Ohio and we’re having a good laugh over her recent success. It’s beer o’clock on both ends of the phone, the last interview in a long week of talking to complete strangers for the two of us.

Cadillac Sky

Cadillac Sky should be a lot more tired. It’s early Saturday afternoon at MerleFest and the band–Bryan Simpson, Matt Menefree, Andrew Moritz, Ross Holmes and newest addition David Mayfield–has already logged two performances on the day....
